Vukani Simuka (derived from the Ndebele and Shona dialect to Wake up and Stand) is a venture capital firm that seeks to identify innovative SMEs with strong business models that can be monetized and scaled up. The firm seeks to promote economic growth and development by promoting private sector development through establishing and investing in African SMEs through the supply of scarce long-term capital, enhance capital market liquidity and financial sector deepening.

The team offers a range of sector diversification and exposure in Investments, Capital Markets, Business Operations, Advisory and Private Equity that interlinks to meet the fund’s objectives.

MARTIN JINYA
Founder - Managing Partner
Martin comes with over 18 years’ experience in corporate and investment management, capital and financial markets and insurance/ risk management. He started his career as an investment analyst at American International Group (Zimbabwe). Martin held several senior roles at various companies including being Head of equity research and corporate finance advisory at Renaissance Securities, Financial Lines Manager at Zimnat Lion Insurance Company, and Senior Investment Analyst at the National Economic Empowerment Fund. Martin has been involved in some high-profile transactions across the investment spectrum from capital raising for listed companies, initial public offering and rights issues and share swaps. As Senior Investment Analyst at the Empowerment Fund, he led the structuring and establishment of a youth focused microfinance bank EmpowerBank which still plays a role in supporting youth businesses in Zimbabwe. He recently led a team that established a pharmaceutical wholesale business in Zimbabwe where he was the Managing Director.

TENDAI JAMESON MTOMBENI
Co-Founder : Business Development
Tendai holds a BSc in Applied Physics and MSc in Artificial Intelligence. Tendai brings three years of experience as a Quantitative Analyst. Prior founding Vukani, Tendai worked as a Quantitative Analyst with Nurture Capital Agri Holdings, were he developed various technical models from Agriculture sector to Energy Sector. In his bid to contribute to the development of cattle industry in Zimbabwe, Tendai managed to develop a model that will rate cattle farmers, assess risk of their operations, and suggest better ways to mitigate the risk. The vision was to create an ecosystem that will improve financial service inclusion of the cattle farmers. Further, worked with Pillhurb Pharmaceutical Distributors as a business analyst, where he was responsible for enhancement of operations efficiency for the company.

TREVOR MAGWAZA
Partner
Trevor is a registered Professional Engineer and Project Manager who has more than 16 years’ experience practicing as an Engineer having worked in local authorities, contracting, engineering consultancy and development finance institution (DFI). His experience spans across various sectors and in development finance institution (DFI) he managed projects from initiation to closing, to operations & maintenance and funding of infrastructure projects. Trevor has vast experience in renewable energy projects from project preparation, development and implementation of projects and an advisory role on Project Finance and Management in the Energy Sector.

WILLIAM MUSAVENGANA

William is a proactive and results-driven Entrepreneur with 24 years’ experience in Agribusiness, Markets and Developmental projects with a highly successful background in the achievement of profitable business growth through creation and execution of successful strategies in Program Management, Agribusiness Development & Financing, Inclusive Market Systems Development, Value Chains Development, Factory Management, Agronomy, Supply Chain Management, Food Safety & Quality Management, and standards management (Ethical and Fair Trade and Good Agricultural, Environmental, Manufacturing, Hygiene Practice) and mainstreaming green growth, technology, remote support & gender strategies. He has experience in working with leading Produce Exporters, Global Markets, Food Manufacturers, Donors, Government Departments, Financial Institutions. He spearheaded Agribusiness start-ups in Horticulture, Dairying, Poultry and Beef processing in Mozambique, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. He has raised and managed over 30 million Usd funds in agribusiness. He has worked in different companies in Africa that includes Hotico Fresh Produce Exports (Zimbabwe), Landell Mills (E.U), LadyAgri (FMO-Dutch Development Bank), Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund, Kenya Horticultural Exporters, MozFoods (Mozambique) and Technoserve. He also did consultancy work for large corporates that includes AFDB, Anglo-American and Coca-Cola.
